WQS-001 is my first honeybee colony.

I became a beekeeper because I wanted honey. It sounded simple enough: one hive, one colony, and someday jars of golden honey to use in my soap. What I didn’t expect was everything else the bees would give me.

Since welcoming WQS-001 to the garden, I’ve learned that beekeeping is as much about observation as it is about honey. Every inspection, every flight pattern, every unexpected moment has taught me something new—not just about bees, but about patience, community, and paying attention to the world around me.

This isn’t a beekeeping manual. It’s a journey that I started on May 23, 2026, after thinking about it for years. Some days I’ll share a lesson from the hive. Other days it might be a funny story, like getting stung for the first time or discovering the bees “bearding” on a humid summer morning.
